Child abuse happens every day, in every community across our country.  As other causes hold a level of urgency and validity, they often have a definitive end in sight.  However, the fight against child abuse is one that will remain a constant struggle and issue from here on out.
  • 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before the age of 18.*
  • The median age for reported abuse is 9 years old.*
  • Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults are on children ages 17 and under.*
  • 80% of child abuse victims have been maltreated by one or both parents.*
  • There are 40 million survivors of child sexual abuse in America today.*

* Statistical data and respective studies provided by National Children’s Alliance and can be found online at www.nationalchildrensalliance.org

A quote by author Nancy Veldman says, “In innocence, a child believes things adults are afraid to dream to of.”

Whether it is sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or neglect, when a child is abused, they lose that innocence.  However, with the proper response, a child can make a healthy recovery and regain a piece of that innocence.

It is upon that belief that the Innocence Lost Campaign was founded.  With the work of child advocacy centers and the response of multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), the goal is to ensure that children disclosing abuse are not further victimized by the intervention systems designed to protect them.  The proceeds raised during this ongoing campaign will directly benefit the MDT response by supporting The C.A.R.E. Center, Inc. and the National Children’s Alliance.
